A Guide to Vegas
Incongruously surrounded by desert land in Clark County Nevada, Las Vegas is the self-appointed ‘entertainment capital of the world’. A hotbed of thriving activity, the city is home to a selection of the most lavish casinos, hotels, productions and shows on the planet. Initially however, Vegas may intimidate visitors with its labyrinth of illumination and splendour, therefore it’s beneficial to have prior knowledge of the most popular attractions before arriving.
The ‘Las Vegas Strip’, is a stretch of road through the city, which reaches almost four-miles. The ‘strip’ accommodates several of the largest and finest hotels in Vegas, including the MGM Grand, The Palazzo, The Bellagio, and The Mirage – many of the most talked about attractions are located inside the hotel casinos; the water fountains at the Bellagio and the volcano at the Mirage are popular amongst visitors.
As for the best gambling experience, Las Vegas has an abundance of superb casinos, many of which have been mentioned in this article, such as the MGM Grand. However, The Venetian, situated between Flamingo Road and Sands Avenue on the ‘Strip’, comes highly recommended for families, couples, and hardline gamblers alike. The hotel casino is an AAA Five-Diamond rated establishment, meaning it offers absolute luxury accommodation, with high quality attractions, and an optimum standard casino. As well as housing over four thousand suites, The Venetian boasts a shopping mall, gondola rides on the buildings own canal, and a Madam Tussauds wax museum – it has also been the scene for various Hollywood movies such as Rat Race, Resident Evil, and Miss Congeniality 2.
For the more competitive gambler, the Treasure Island Casino, located between Flamingo Road and Spring Mountain Road, hosts regular poker tournaments. Players looking to take part in these events should look to sign up before the allocated start times – Treasure Island hosts competitions at 11am, 2pm, 7pm, and 10pm.
It should be noted that all casinos in Las Vegas operate under a strict age policy – if under the age of twenty-one, you will not be admitted into the venue. Identification is often required, i.e driving license etc, and photocopied versions of these documents are usually not acceptable.
